Our History
It all began in 1981 with a passion to engage the construction sector. Over 40 years ago to date, Windale Tate began his career as an Operating Engineer. Having a prior Defense Department background under the General Services Administration and U. S. Army Corps of Engineers, Tate quickly earned a solid reputation for his management and field knowledge as he transitioned to civilian life. Over the course of a few decades working with industries best, Tate's knowledge consistently broadened positioning him for today's building and construction challenges. In 1991, Vintage Constructors was launched and began offering basement excavation services to residential builders and developers, later advancing into commercial site development. The Vintage team made smart decisions, seized opportunities, fostered innovative approaches, and like most, experienced hardship during the housing crisis. Mid 2005, Tate began to explore other opportunities. His interest took him abroad connecting with promising technology development companies where he was engaged for his business acumen and ability to relentlessly transform opportunity into viable enterprise propositions for commercialization. After years of dedication, HomeSource, Pty Ltd goes public resulting in the appointment of a new Board of Directors. HomeSoft unfortunately has experienced ongoing internal litigation over several years. Never losing faith, several years later Tate began to re-engaged those who continued to share in his passion for rebuilding Detroit and to grow into something even more extraordinary, METROPOLIS. Unpretentiously, today the Vintage brand sits idle as an entity, yet continues to resonate at the very core of daily operations at Metropolis. Now, its key partners Lateshia Rogers, sons Ajon, Antoine and Armani Tate and daughter Asia collectively bring an even broader business methodology that's focused on client satisfaction. This methodology serves as the foundation for re-strengthening a long tradition of service excellence. Today, Metropolis is positioned as a respected full service residential, commercial and industrial building and site development contractor serving communities throughout Southeastern Michigan and Central Ohio.
